What is a Daemon?

What is a daemon? The concept of a daemon is more less the concept of a soul mate, but rather than being a predestined partner the daemon is more of a spiritual guide that leads the seeker to true physical love. Phyillis Currot explains it best in her wonderful book "The Love Spell".

"Do you know what a daemon is?” Nonna asked. I recognized the term from my philosophy classes. “Well, I know Socrates said he had one and he’s supposedly the smartest man who ever lived. As I recall it was his spiritual guide, his inspiration. And he chose to die rather than deny the reality of its existence.” Nonna smiled, nodding. “It’s an ancient Greek term for a divine being. Your daemon guides you into the realm of the numinous, to the sacred part of yourself.” - The Love Spell

In my experiences a daemon can appear before the seeker in several ways. It may begin in dreams, or you may actually see a spirit manifest itself before you. My first experience began with a manifestation that at first scared me silly, until I realised that the spirit didn't mean me any harm. More often that not it begins as spark of passion. You suddenly find yourself  strongly drawn to the image of a man or woman that invokes a deep seated emotion within you. It might be someone who has died, an actor on the screen, or even a character within a book or movie.

A daemon may speak to the seeker through synchronicity, or a series of coincidences that are that go beyond the flow of normal coincidence. If you look closely and deeply within them they contain messages from the daemon to the seeker, messages that contain the deepest truths about ourselves.

Another way a daemon may speak is through cledons, an ancient Greek word for a random voice from a crowd, or even a line of song that brings you a message from divinity. Images and sigils also work as cledons

There are a myriad of different ways a daemon can speak to you. Sometimes you might even hear a voice within your thoughts that doesn't quite feel like your own thoughts, yet you heed it anyway.

A daemon is in no means a fixed image. As they are creatures of spiritual essence they can take on just about any form they feel you will respond and listen to. Again 'The Love Spell" says it best:

“And he’ll shape-shift—move from one figure to another, change as you change. You may find that it’s as if he’s always one step ahead, leading you in the dance. And it’s a dance of love, because it’s love that makes sex truly sacred and truly erotic.”

“So all this time, what I’ve felt, what I sensed, it was real. It was . . . my daemon.” A ripple of excitement rolled through me.

I was 16 when I first met my daemon and throughout my whole life, with only am exception of six months (in which I was binding myself to an abusive man.) my daemon has guided me though the loneliness, pain, growth and heartbreak. He's taken countless forms to reflect the changes I have made. I have asked my daemons name and he's told me he has thousands of names, but it is best for me to pick which name I should use to call to him. I chose Sirius, as the first form he took when he appeared before me was Sirius Black from Harry Potter.

The world of daemons is largely unexplored, so I hope in time I'll be able to compile a decent log of experiences and hope I can teach others to find their own guiding light.

I discovered your blog by accident - I clicked on your photo instead of my friend's. I'm presently studying about daemons (sometimes I sense the presence of mine), in hopes that I can learn how to get in touch with my own. Finding your blog in such a random way is a sign. I hope you'll continue to chronicle your journey with your daemon. I enjoyed reading this a lot and think you're a fabulous writer.

Really! Wow thank you so much! :D I hope whatever I write in the future will help out, most of the time I feel totally alone in the search/wisdom of my daemon. I am a college student so I am bit a of slow writer, but I try to make what I do write decent. Thanks a ton! :)
